Hardship Applications

Kingborough Council  recognises that many in our community are experiencing hardship as the coronavirus pandemic impacts lives and businesses.

The economic situation will also have a significant impact on Council and our budget.

Council now faces significant deficits over the next few years and will take on debt to support continued operations.  Due to this, we will need to target what support we can to those who need it most.  Council has implemented an interim hardship policy for the remainder of the 2019-20 financial year, while we engage with our local community to better understand the impacts across the municipal area.  The policy means that for those who are experiencing financial hardship, Council has agreed on some measures to lessen the immediate impact.

  • Rates – businesses and ratepayers can apply to defer the due date of payment of the next rate instalment until 30 June 2020.  Landlords are also able to apply on behalf of tenants who are under stress on the condition the benefits are passed on.
  • Fees and charges – tenants of Council owned buildings can apply to have these charges waived or reduced.
