Members of the Channel community, and those who have a connection to Gordon, are invited to attend an unveiling ceremony at Three Hut Point (adjacent to the Gordon jetty) on Saturday, 6 February, at 2pm.
The ceremony will be held to unveil a series of interpretative signs, which tell the history of Gordon. The project includes information about the area’s original inhabitants, the muwinina people, its first colonial families, including the Behrens family, and the impact the 1967 bushfires had on Gordon’s key civic buildings.
The project is a collaboration between the South Channel Ratepayers and Residents Association and Kingborough Council, with contributions from the South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation, weetapoona Aboriginal Corporation, and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre.
