ENGAGEMENT WORKING GROUP

Register your interest to be part of our LGBTIQ+ Engagement Group.
Closing date: 1st April, 2022

Kingborough Council commits to creating a community which is inclusive, safe and respectful for all.

Community engagement is a critical component for making positive change as decisions are based on personal and collective experiences, stories and concerns.

We are seeking members for a LGBTIQ+ engagement working group to help us plan for, undertake and analyse the feedback from engagement to better inform Council about the issues and needs faced by members of our LGBTIQ+ communities.

What are the requirements of being involved?
In order to be part of this engagement working group you must:

  • Identify as LGBTIQ+ and/or be an advocacy body or provider of services to the LGBTIQ+ communities
  • Live or deliver services in the Kingborough Municipality

What is the selection process?
1. Firstly, complete the expression of interest form at the bottom of this webpage

2. The applications will be reviewed by Council representatives with selection leading to a well-rounded team with varied backgrounds and experiences

3. If successful, you will be asked to join the engagement working group and adhere to its Terms of Reference (draft Terms of Reference can be found at the bottom of this webpage but please note these won’t be finalised until the engagement working group has had opportunity to review and provide feedback on them)

What commitment is involved?

  • We anticipate there will be at least 4 meetings this year, lasting around 1.5 hours each. These will likely be during business hours, but we will consider the possibility of after-hours meetings in consultation with the group and with consideration of staffing availability and costs.
  • The engagement working group will remain in place until the completion of engagement work and report to Council. You will be asked to commit to attend each meeting. Of course, sometimes things arise, and you may not be able to attend a meeting. That’s ok, you will just need to discuss it with the Chair.

How will the Group work?

  • There will be chance for discussion in an open, honest and respectful environment. You will be asked your opinion and experience in relation to how to engage with the local LGBTQI+ communities and the issues that come back to us through our engagement process.
  • Your input into proposed actions and activities for Council will be most welcome and valued
  • You may get insight into the broader business of Council
  • You will get the chance to meet other community members over a cup of tea!
  • You will be required to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.
