Kingborough Recycling Truck Art Competition

Council and Kingborough Waste Services (KWS) are excited to announce the launch of the 2025 Recycling Truck Art Competition for primary-aged students in the Kingborough area.

Mayor Paula Wriedt said the competition was open to primary school students from kindergarten to Year 6, aged 4 to 12.

“The competition encourages students to use their creativity to educate the community about good recycling habits,” Cr Wriedt said.

“We want our young residents to design an image for one of our recycling trucks, that clearly shows plastic bags don’t belong in the recycling bin.

“Unfortunately, plastic bag contamination in recycling bins is a significant issue in Kingborough.

“People often place empty bottles, cardboard, paper and other recyclables into plastic bags before putting them into the yellow recycling bin.

“When this happens, the entire contents can’t be recycled and end up in landfill, undoing their good recycling efforts.

“This competition is a fun way for students to see their artwork travelling throughout Kingborough, whilst promoting an important community message.

“Primary schools across Kingborough will be provided information packs about the competition along with entry forms, with details on Council’s website.

“Two winners will be selected to have their artwork printed on a KWS recycling truck with four runners-up will also be acknowledged.

“All six students will each receive a $50 gift voucher.

“The competition runs for the duration of Term 3 and closes on Friday, 26 September.

“All primary school aged students in the Kingborough municipality are eligible to enter, whether they attend school here or live here.”

The winners will be announced during National Recycling Week in November.
