Kingston Beach Coastcare wins National Landcare Award

Kingston Beach Coastcare has won the 2025 National Greyhound Coastcare Award at the Landcare Australia Conference and Gala Awards Night.

Mayor Paula Wriedt congratulated Kingston Beach Coastcare on their national recognition.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the amazing work that this group does protecting our coastal environment,” Cr Wriedt said.

The Awards Night was held on Tuesday, 23 September in the Gold Coast and celebrated the achievements of Landcare Groups from around Australia.

Kingston Beach Coastcare’s current convenor, Barbara Marshall and founding convenor, Jane Bamford accepted the award on behalf of the local group.

“It was a huge and unexpected surprise to hear on the Gala Awards Night that we had won the Landcare Australia 2025 National Greyhound Coastcare Award,” said Ms Marshall.

“The award gives due recognition for the 25 years of continuous and dedicated care given to land and coast by our active volunteers, past and present.

“It acknowledges the significant improvements we have made to the coastal environment at Kingston Beach.

“It’s worth noting that our success would not have been possible without the ongoing collaboration and guidance of the biodiversity team at Kingborough Council and the generous support of our peak body Landcare Tasmania.

“Teamwork is at the heart of this result,” said Ms Marshall.

Council’s Biodiversity Officer, Jillian Jones represented Council at the Awards Night, also supporting the nomination for the national Community Partnerships Landcare Award.

“This nominee recognises the collaboration with the South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation for the Tasmanian Aboriginal Land Management Officer (TALMO) Program,” said Ms Jones.

“Council’s collaborations across the Landcare and TALMO Programs acknowledges the roles different organisation play in supporting environmental stewardship, cultural awareness and land management practices in the region.

“Kingborough boasts the highest number of Landcare groups of any Tasmanian Council, which is testament to how much our community value the beautiful place we live,” said Ms Jones.
