Kingborough’s Disaster Resilience Strategy

Kingborough Council is developing its first Disaster Resilience Strategy, starting with a community survey to understand where effort should be prioritised.

Acting Mayor Clare Glade-Wright said the survey is the first opportunity for residents to contribute to the Strategy, which is intended to strengthen how our community and Council work together to prepare for, respond to and recover from future disasters.

“The Disaster Resilience Strategy’ aims to set clear goals and priorities to directly shape the actions Council takes to strengthen local resilience,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

“Natural hazards such as bushfires, storms and floods, and emergencies can occur with little warning.

“Council plays a key role in disaster management, through service delivery, regulation, support for community groups, and advocacy.

“The new Strategy will focus on the areas where Council can make the greatest impact.

“As part of this process, Council is seeking input from people across the community.

“Whether you live in Kingborough, operate a business, work or study locally, or visit regularly for recreation, Council wants to hear your views.

“Our focus is on working with the community in a way that meets their needs.

“Communities are best placed to understand what they need to prepare for to reduce the impact and improve the recovery from emergencies.

“The survey is available online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/TRK3B8G, paper copies can be collected from the Kingborough Council Civic Centre in Kingston or the Bruny Island Service Centre, and can also be posted on request.

“The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and asks questions about local hazard awareness and how prepared households and communities feel for potential disasters.

“In addition to the survey, Council will also be engaging directly with community groups and organisations.

“A dedicated focus group will be held to gather insights, experiences and ideas from these key stakeholders,” Cr Glade-Wright said.

The survey closes on 27 April 2026.
