Kingborough Disaster Resilience Strategy

Kingborough Council is developing its first Disaster Resilience Strategy to help strengthen how the community and Council prepare for, respond to and recover from future disasters.
Natural hazards such as bushfires, storms and floods can occur with little warning. The Strategy will set clear goals and priorities to guide Council’s actions and focus effort on areas where Council can make the greatest difference in building local resilience.

Why Council is developing the Strategy

Council has an important role in disaster management through service delivery, regulation, support for community groups and advocacy. The Disaster Resilience Strategy will help ensure this role is targeted, coordinated and informed by local knowledge and experience.
The Strategy will focus on practical actions that support community preparedness, reduce the impact of emergencies and strengthen recovery.

Community input is a key part of developing the Strategy. People who live, work, study, operate a business or regularly visit Kingborough are encouraged to share their views.
Local communities are best placed to understand the risks they face and what support is most effective before, during and after emergencies. Feedback will help Council understand priorities and ensure the Strategy reflects community needs.

Community survey

Council is seeking feedback through a community survey, which takes around 10 minutes to complete.
To find out more and complete the survey, visit:
Open from 16 March to 4 May 2026

Further engagement

In addition to the survey, Council will engage directly with community groups and organisations. A dedicated focus group will be held to gather insights, experiences and ideas from key stakeholders.
