Help us record species across Kingborough during a two-week mini Biodiversity Blitz.

To celebrate Biodiversity Month, Kingborough Council is joining councils across southern Tasmania for a friendly competition.

From September 15-30, participants will record observations to see which local government area can achieve the highest number of verified observations. However, the real winner is the collective knowledge we gain, benefiting  scientists, land managers, landowners and observers who put that knowledge into practice.

The winning Council area will be announced in October after giving observations time to be identified and verified.

Kingborough’s diverse landscapes support a variety of ecosystems, which in turn provide habitat for a huge abundance of plants and animals. Kingborough is also home to one of the longest coastlines in the state, which stretches a stunning 336 kilometres.

The urban ‘pocket’ bushland reserves can be found within and surrounding our urban areas and host threatened species and vegetation communities.

In Kingborough it is easy to walk out your door and explore an area of biodiversity!
Try the saltmarsh at Kingston Beach, the rainforest near Snug, the rockpools at Blackmans Bay, special heathland and orchids in the Peter Murrell reserve or South Bruny, the river’s edge at Margate, the rocky shorelines of

Taroona, unique dry forests on North Bruny, the marine environment of the channel or climb into the alpine zone from Longly. So much to experience!
