Council hosts Citizenship Ceremonies approximately every three months (see dates below).
What happens at a Citizenship Ceremony?
You are required to pledge your allegiance to Australia and its laws and this is the final legal step to become an Australian Citizen. The Presiding Officer, usually the Mayor of Kingborough, will then present you with a Certificate of Australian Citizenship, which formally represents conferral of Australian citizenship.
What to bring to a Citizenship Ceremony
You need to bring photo identification, for example a passport or driver’s licence. Further information is provided in your letter of invitation
When will I attend a Citizenship Ceremony?
Your attendance at a Citizenship Ceremony is usually about 6 months from the time that you receive your letter from the Department of Home Affairs confirming that your application for citizenship has been successful. Council is provided with a list of names about 4 weeks prior to a ceremony date and only then can we send out letters of invitation to attend a ceremony via email and post.
