Street sweeping is an important Council operation to keep Kingborough clean and prevent waste from entering our waterways and catchments.
Street sweeping is generally carried out during Council’s normal working hours.
The street sweeping schedule is based on five areas for residential sweeping and includes some specific rural areas.
We have one sweeping unit to service the whole municipality on a 6 to 7 week cycle (approximately).
Please note that our schedule may be altered due to weather events, however we aim to return to the posted schedule as soon as we have dealt with any weather related effects.
How you can help
There are a few ways that residents can help us keep Kingborough tidy.
- Avoid parking on the street on your sweeping days.
- Bag-up leaves that the street sweeper cannot reach under and near parked vehicles.
- Avoid sweeping or blowing clippings or leaves onto the road or kerb to reduce the amount that has to be collected.
- Avoid raking sticks, branches and rocks onto the road or kerb as they will damage the machinery.
Please note that we don’t sweep or collect leaves that are from your garden. If there are excess leaves on the nature strip and footpath, you can mulch them using a lawn mower and then compost them. For more tips on green waste and composting, please visit our Waste page.
